Betfred League One Preview | Round 19

Betfred League One Preview | Round 19

With Round 19 on the horizonal as the season begins to reach the business end of the season, here is a rundown of what is happening this weekend in Betfred League One.

All five ties take place on Sunday with some intriguing ties across the country.

Dewsbury Rams will be hoping to continue their strong record against Workington Town. The West Yorkshire side have won the last six meetings, with their last defeat to Workington coming back in 2022 in the Betfred Challenge Cup.

After consecutive defeats, the Rams have bounced back with wins against Swinton and Newcastle. They come into the clash in fourth, four points behind their opposition.

Town will be looking for their poor run against Dewsbury to end, however, this season they have won the last three matches so come into this one in good form.

It’s been over a decade since Workington won away at Dewsbury. Town's last away victory against the Rams was an 18-16 Championship win on 28 April 2013.

Goole will face Swinton for the second time in their history and will be hoping to overturn the tight deficit they fell to earlier in the season.

Swinton narrowly defeated the Vikings 30-28 in Round Four.

The Lions sit second in the table and claimed a huge scalp last week, as they defeated league leaders, North Wales Crusaders. That was the second defeat of the season, both inflicted by Swinton.

Scott Taylor’s Goole side had been in good form, with four wins in a row, but they got brought down to earth with a 50-0 home defeat to Rochdale Hornets.

The Hornets will take confidence from their emphatic victory against Goole and their narrow victory against Whitehaven but have a tough task at hand as they host North Wales Crusaders. The win last week was their third in a row.

Last season, Rochdale completed the double over Crusaders with a one-point victory in Round 6 and a 28-10 home win in Round 22.

North Wales have had a near perfect record this season, just two defeats suffered all season in Betfred League One, both coming against Swinton Lions.

The game will see the joint top scorers in the league facing off, with Sam Wilde of North Wales and Luke Forber of Rochdale both have 17 tries each this season.

Midlands Hurricanes will head to the Ortus Rec for the first time on Sunday and they will be looking for a third win against Whitehaven this season. The Hurricanes have already completed a league and cup double, with wins in Betfred League One and the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup.

The Hurricanes have lost their last two matches against Swinton and Workington Town.

Whitehaven will be hoping that their horrendous run comes to an end. They have lost their last seven matches, which includes the 38-8 Round 10 defeat to Midlands.

The final game sees the bottom two sides face-off.

Newcastle are in search of their first win of the season. Meanwhile, Keighley have won just four games after 15 games this season.

Keighley’s last victory was at home in Round 17.
